I have recently down sized and sold all of my large rigs and was looking for a small combo amp which could provide me the best possible sound. I was after the warmest, most rounded sound I could get and the guys at the Bass Centre recommended this amp. Its killer! Just setting the eq flat was great but a little tweaking and its nice and fat. The weight and size is perfect and for playing at home the 150W is way more than enough power. Also not having a horn is good for me as I always turned mine off on my big cabs when practising at home. Seriously this is one of the best amps I have ever bought! (I have bought a lot) and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a warm, fat, smooth tone!
OK, I didn't buy one of these from the Bass Centre (yet!), but I played one on a backline today and it sounded killer! Great Markbass tone, huge sound with the master volume barely tickled and with all EQ flat and a 5 second play with the VLE and VPF knobs it just had tone for days. I was pleasantly surprised by this little guy, and it's now at the top of my wishlist. :-)
For what you payand the small size and very light weight, the tone on this little gem is bloody brilliant. The position of the handle on the top makes lugging it around easy as, and the possibility of adding an extension cab and therefore taking full advantage of the full 250W output is an added bonus. As a practice amp, you can't really go wrong with this. Set all the knobs to flat and go!
By recommendation of Bass Centre's friendly staff, I chose this combo as my first bass amp and am quite pleased with it. The EQ is four band and provides ample flexibility through its boost/cut operation - which reminds me, this combo is literally the Little Mark 250 shoved into a 1x15 box. Unfortunately the amp does not run at 250W, rather at 150W unless you add an extension cabinet, but it still ample to be heard over two guitars at a small gig. I'm not a pro by any means, but the only thing I miss about this amp is the lack of a built in overdrive or similar additional features. You appear to get a little more for your money in the Fender Rumble series, and admittedly I like the Fender tone a little more for HARD ROOOOOOOCK, but the build quality of the Markbass is probably superior, and it's got a very smooth sound that can blend well into the mix.
