to be clear: I've never used this pedal. ever. I HAVE used most of MXRs dirt pedals over my 20years as a guitarist. They're brilliant. I'm as good a guitarist as I'll ever be, and I knew exactly how I wanted to sound from the beginning. And I got there. From bargain bins to boutique pedals, I only use what makes MY sound work to MY ears, with no cork-sniffing judgement of other guitar tones. Time for a challenge. I've just picked up bass. I know how I want it to sound. And I know I need this.
I bought one of these just over 18 months ago and have not looked back. I searched and searched for a decent sounding bass distortion pedal, and to top it all off it also acts as a DI. The sound this produces is fantastic and so easy to adjust. One pedal is all I need now.
This is a great little DI for those who need a tight, decent sounding distortion. The colour switch adds exactly that; cuts the mids a little and gives a slight bass boost. For me, it's an 'always on' switch. I've gigged with just this little DI, no amp, and it pulls its weight very nicely. My only criticism is the small size and position of the switches makes it hard to turn the distortion on/off without hitting the other knobs in the heat of a rock gig. Other than requiring a little bit of precision stomping, this is a great little DI, full sounding and built like a tank.
Comes with a range of good features, including a noise gate, option to use phantom power, distortion, and the 'color' switch. This switch seems to work as boost of sorts, but it does wonders for your sound! The distortion is also good considering it's not a dedicated distortion pedal.
