The Tone Tyrannosaur
Easily the best bass I've ever played, guitarist couldn't stop grinning the first time I brought it to practice. I was also looking for a new amp, and this bass makes them all sound good, but I went with a Genzler Magellan 800, as the tone of this instrument doesn't need colouring. Build quality is top notch, loads of tonal options with the Darkglass preamp (high and low mid controls are a brilliant idea), neck is beautiful and overall finish looks great. Multiscale took a little getting used to, but it's definitely the way to go with a 5-string that is often tuned to drop-A. Had to make a small truss rod adjustment, but aside from that the setup straight out of the box was excellent. And this is just the entry-level model. Can't end this review without a shout out to Dave at Bass Centre, who went out of his way to make the whole process of importing to NZ as cost-effective as possible. Cheers mate!
