Bass Centre were fantastic. I ordered this bass, and it was delivered to me (regional NSW) within a week. This bass is great value for money. It comes with a really good quality gig bag and a pickup cover (if you want to install it). The neck is smooth, and it plays beautifully. This is a very versatile bass as you can pretty much set it up whatever way you like as you can string through the body (as supplied) or string through the bridge. You also have the ability to switch between passive and active mode, and there are three knobs and two stacked knobs in order to adjust the sound. The downsides are that the instrument requires 2x 9v batteries and the battery cover requires a screwdriver to open it, having a mahogany body makes it sound great, but also means it is quite heavy, while having so many knobs makes it really adjustable, it can be hard to remember what knob does what when there’s nothing that comes with the actual instrument to inform you (my Ibanez for example came with an informative removable piece of plastic over the knobs), so you have to refer back to the website to see what does what (if like me you’re not a professional player). Overall I would still recommend this instrument.

I can absolutely nail my favourite tone from my Fender USA Deluxe Jazz 5 with this bass. It is lighter than a Fender 5, easier on the ageing shoulders after a long gig, and feels really easy to play. The neck is thin, and super smooth with that fine satin finish. I loved the V7 and nearly bought one, but the V3 had a darker tone, a huge warm bottom end, less traditional jazz and a little more rock, I really like that. I don’t care about all that gloss and binding anyway. Of course you can see the cost cuts... no binding, no inlays, no gloss lacquer. The bridge saddles have less weight than the V7, although the steel bridge Is still pretty heavy. The pickups are a little louder, but I wouldn’t say harsher than the V7 to my ears, And the tuning keys do feel a bit budget. But the stuff that really matters is bang on target: an awesome and infinitely flexible 18v pre-amp, one of the best I have ever played, and a great quality body and neck. To be able to buy this much bass... for this price... it is a really really great deal. And it makes it easy to forgive the bass any minor niggles... although to be honest I haven’t found any yet. I’ve no doubt the Sires will sell themselves. Hopefully they’ll encourage more people to play bass by making a really good instrument affordable. Oh.., and if you’re a gear nut like me, you partner is very unlikely to argue too much with the expense. Like my wife said... “is that all it costs? Well... why don’t you just buy it then?”.
