Epiphone Jack Casady Bass

One of the best semi acoustic basses going around with thunderous tones, great feel and classic looks.

The Jack Casady Signature Bass was designed by Casady in collaboration with Epiphone and is the culmination of years of experimentation by the Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna bassist to find an instrument with superb, balanced electric tone and the response of an acoustic bass.Casady is one of the rare rock bassists known by both fans and players for his signature tone. And like The Beach Boys' Brian Wilson and The Beatles' Paul McCartney, Casady became a bass player after years of study on other instruments. "My first teacher was a big band guitarist named Harry Vorhees. Later on I took from a number of guitarists; one was Bill Harris who was the guitarist for the Clovers," Casady told Epiphone.com. "He had studied with a guy who studied with Andres Segovia."

The best value for money in semi-acoustics

The new pau ferro fretboards are gorgeous, and the fit and finish is great for the price. I have replaced the stock bridge and tuners on mine with Hipshot hardware, along with a set of Fender 9050L flats. Looks, sounds and feels amazing.

Wolf in sheep skin.

I used to own one of these and was forced to sell at hard times, ever since then I have been looking forward to owning one again. I'll keep it simple. The Jack Casady bass is a HUGE but we weighted and comfortable classic looking bass that has a tonne of style and playability, but it really shines in the tone department, the single Electa (I think) pickup is like a wide unsplit P bass pickup with a huge solid output! This things GROWLS! The hollow body helps pull out extra harmonics when overdriven and it can take down tunings as well! On top of the standard Volume/Tone simp0le passive control there is a 3-way chickenhead switch for output strength. Why anyone would have it on anything under the '500' setting is beyond me but if attack and chunky bass isn't what you're after, this thing can pull a polite vintage tone with no problem! Fat, stylish, light and just damn pretty! It's a beast! Check out Shihad's music from the mid 90's the the early 00's for one of these badasses being used well, there are other bands that use them but I can't bring myself to suggest anyone listen to Jet so we'll leave it at that!
