Obviously I am an Anthrax fan and that was a factor in trying these pickups out. I was a bit apprehensive because I am not a fan of active pickups, but I was suprised over how quiet they are and they sound/respond like passive pickups. They are not just for metal, they are great for 70's-90's pop/rock stuff as well. Very happy with them.

Obviously I am an Anthrax fan and that is a big reason as to why I brought these. They were very easy to install with no soldering required and straight forward instructions. I was a bit wary because I am not a big fan of active pickups, although I have never tried the EMG X series pickups before. I found these pickups to be very quiet, quite bright and more like passive pickups. Sound wise they are not just for metal (you can get a Caught In A Mosh or Got The Time sound from them), I practiced some songs that the band I was in play (they are a cover band who do pop/rock songs from 70's-90's) and they sounded great and clean. I have paired with a BTS control I already had and am really happy with the result. If the other EMG X pickups are like these, I am seriously considering replacing the active bass pickups I have.
